Tin Goose and Tall Ships

On a beautiful July Sunday, the Tin Goose and the Tall Ships were all at the waterfront in Cleveland. The Tin Goose, a 1929 Ford tri-motor, was at Burke Lakefront Airport and there was a Tall Ships festival at the harbor by Browns Stadium.

First stop, the airport. Jim went for a ride in the Tin Goose and we learned about its storied past. 199 of these were built from 1925 to 1933, and 3 are still operational today (with some restoration of course.) This particular Tin Goose was actually Eastern Airlines' first plane. It was also used in the movie Public Enemy starring Johnney Depp. Jim took some great shots from the air as well as a video.












Burke Lakefront Airport is also the home of the International Women's Air and Space Museum. Barb thoroughly enjoyed reading about the women pioneers in air and space flight - there were some amazing stories. She is posing by "Pretty Purple Puddy Tat" - an acrobatic plane made by Tracy Pilur in her garage in the 1960's. She was the mother of six and she won first place in a competition with this plane.


After that, we walked over to the harbor and got a close-up of 16 different ships that are sailing around the Great Lakes this summer. Ahoy mateys, it put us in the mood for pirate games and sea adventures.

We're Baaaack!

Did anyone notice we haven't posted in a while? Now that Barb is also "semi-retired," we will attempt to catch up/back post in case we still do have anyone that checks in on us every now and then.

Most recently, we were at Lake James with most of Barb's family. We all missed Anne and the Canada Zoll's, who just couldn't get away.

David and Myra were wonderful hosts, and it was great to see Ben's family in from Singapore. Sarah and Mike had exciting news to share, while Jen and Tom provided some fun new toys that amused all of us. What's a summer gathering without Corn Toss? Carly and Tiffany won the team competition and Tiffany beat everyone in the "sudden death" contest. And of course, the four children provided nonstop entertainment.












Sarah was the #1 Prognosticator for the March madness tournament this year, and The Commissioner made the official trophy presentation. Way to go, Sarah!

A Tale of Two Dogs

Scout and Augie are friends, and both reside in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Cleveland enjoys the full cycle of the four seasons - beautiful springs, warm and sunny summers, colorful falls and winter wonderlands.

This winter, Scout spent 3 weeks on North Captiva Island, Florida, swimming, kayaking and hanging out at the pool, while Augie cozied up with his owners in Lakewood.

December was a whirlwind of activities with family and friends. What do we take away from this? We are so blessed and fortunate to have all these wonderful people in our lives. May 2010 bring continued blessings to each and every one.
